Break into Prison Healthcare

HMP Oakwood is a category C prison with capacity for 1605 male adult prisoners over the age of 21 serving a range of sentences including trial, remand, awaiting sentence and convicted men.

Our innovative recovery model of care is supported by the use of the latest technology underpinned by training and support. All of these factors help us to deliver high quality standards of care.

Care UK have recently undertaken provision of healthcare at HMP Oakwood and are currently embarking upon our journey of shaping healthcare here and moving towards gold standard provision. We now have a strong regional presence across Staffs & Worcs and are combining service development and learning across the region in order to ensure a strong regional team and best practice throughout. Our senior team require strong clinical leadership input from a Lead General Practitioner in this exciting venture.

What does the job involve?

The Lead General Practitioner will, in addition to providing high quality primary care medical services to prisoners residing in the Prison, form a key part of the senior leadership team and regional team.

They will have active involvement in clinical governance/effectiveness activities, and in shaping and embedding clinical processes, pathways and innovations to bring in gold standard delivery to all aspects of our healthcare. If you’re an experienced GP with previous leadership experience but have never worked in a prison environment before, don’t let this hold you back in making an application.

Our service is a clinically lead service, with a strong and supportive team of experienced clinical leaders who will support you in your role, as will our robust induction and training programmes. A salary of c£110,000 (d.o.e.) is offered along with a generous benefits package, including reimbursed indemnity fees.
