HMP Highpoint is a Category C Prison based in Newmarket, Suffolk.  The prison has an operational capacity of 1325 in separate units offering single and double cell accommodation and two primary care centres.

Alongside providing healthcare for minor injuries and illnesses, the prison also addresses and treats health conditions relating to substance misuse and also continuing treatment for chronic illnesses such as diabetes.

The site currently has requirement for a General Practitioner to work alongside the current team of enthusiastic GPs, RGN’s, RMN’s and HCAs providing ongoing treatment to patients within the prison.

As a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team, the General Practitioner will provide clinical assessment and diagnosis to patient’s requirements and make timely decisions regarding future management. You will also provide a highly specialist resource to other healthcare staff, patients and carers and have active involvement in clinical governance/effectiveness activities.

It doesn’t end there; you will have a chance to become actively involved in audit, teaching and training (management of substance misuse and/or blood borne viruses) as well as helping us to adapt the service to the ever-changing needs of the patients.

Currently the requirement is for 36 hours across the week, working 0830-1700 as well as a Saturday morning emergency GP session 9am-12pm .
