Alberta – Major cities near the magnificent Rocky Mountains, Canada

What we are looking for:  General Practitioners (Family Doctors) for well-respected medical clinics in the cities of Calgary or Edmonton, Province of Alberta, Canada.

Option One: Where you will practice: Calgary: This modern clinic is a group practice of four GP’s seeing 150-175 patients a day while turning away at least 20 more each day.  Physicians have access to fourteen fully equipped and spacious examination rooms. Estimated gross billings of $700,000 or £430,000 less overhead contribution.  In Canada, the compensation is a fee-for-service model so the greater the number of patients seen, the greater your income. UK physicians love this opportunity to increase their income!

Calgary Bonus: incentives include guaranteed income for the first 3 months.  Ask us for details.

Option Two:  Where you will practice: Edmonton:  This dynamic, progressive, high volume medical practice has been established since 1991. Over 50% of the team has been with the clinic for more than 5 years – very little turnover among physicians. Estimated gross billings of $520,000 or £320,000 less overhead contribution. Great opportunity for physicians – 26 exam rooms, fully trained medical office assistants. Collegiate, collaborative environment.

About Life in Alberta, Canada:   Breath-taking natural wonders and landscapes!  Welcoming communities with diverse cultures!  High standard of living and home to many world-class services!  Exciting experiences!  New career opportunities, with a focus on economic growth, creating jobs and abundant opportunities for entrepreneurs!   Every year, people from across Canada and all over the world come to Alberta as their place of choice to work and live.

Higher income in Alberta:  Families in Alberta typically enjoy a higher family income than other parts of Canada. In a 2020 Canadian income survey, Alberta families earned a median income of $104,000 after tax. This is above the Canadian average of $92,400.

Housing in Alberta:  You can own a house in one of our 2 major cities for as little as $450,000.   In Edmonton, you can own 3 or 4 homes for the same price as one home in Vancouver.

Rents vary depending on where you live and what type of housing you live in. The average rent in the province is $1266 – larger centres will have higher rents.

Child care in Alberta:  If you are working or attending school and you have young children, you may need to arrange for child care. Alberta offers both informal, unlicensed care and formal, licensed programs.

Transportation in Alberta:  Many Albertans own a vehicle. To drive a car, truck, or van, you need a driver’s license, insurance, and registration for your vehicle.  Many cities have transit systems with public buses, while Calgary and Edmonton also have train transit systems.

Community and lifestyle in Alberta:  Alberta is made up of a diverse set of cultures and communities that are home to many world-class services.  Our communities are part of what makes Alberta such a great place to live, with small, rural towns home of only a few hundred people, to our 2 major cities, Calgary and Edmonton, with populations of over 1 million each.  Each have their own unique character and many opportunities for work.

About the city of Calgary:  A major city in the province of Alberta, near the prairies, and roughly 80 km east of the Canadian Rockies.  In Calgary, take a view from the top of Calgary Tower, or a walk back into history at the Heritage Park Historical Village; spend a day at the Military Museum; or at the Olympic Plaza, a 16,000-sq-m urban park located just east of Downtown Calgary created for the 1988 Winter Olympic Games; try out the Calgary Stampede, one of the world’s largest rodeos, held for 10 days every July since 1886.  Go to 17th Avenue for shopping at over 400 boutiques, restaurants and cafes; Prince Island Park for a quiet stroll; sample the Alberta beef, a locally produced meat served in the city's steakhouses; catch an ice hockey game, Canada’s official national winter sport; or sip craft beer at Big Rock Brewery with a 90-minute tour of the brewery.    For a nearby holiday, drive two hours to the Rocky Mountains to Jasper or Banff to experience open space, blue lakes, winter skiing, and year-round natural beauty.  The weather in Calgary compared to London is colder in the winter but about the same in the summer.

About the city of Edmonton:  Do you like shopping?  Imagine a 490,000 square metre mall that boasts over 800 stores and services, the LARGEST SHOPPING MALL in North America.  West Edmonton Mall is home to theme parks, a water park, a miniature golf course, four movie theatre complexes, entertainment centre, and indoor skating rink.  The Edmonton River Valley Park:  20 different parks including golf courses and lakes, that combined are 22 times larger than Central Park in New York City.  The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village: A historical site featuring 30 historic buildings, gardens and monuments that depict the life of Ukrainian settlers between 1899 and 1930 with workers dressed in traditional clothing.  For art: Edmonton’s Arts District is downtown and hosts festivals, landmarks, shopping, and art, all within walking distance of the Central Business District and the Warehouse District.  Museums: The Royal Alberta Museum, The Alberta Aviation Museum, the Telus World of Science and IMAX theatre, are here to experience and enjoy.  Sports:  NHL Edmonton Oilers (hockey), the Edmonton Eskimos (football) and FC Edmonton (soccer).  Winter skiing: Nearby is Edmonton Ski, Snow Valley and Sunridge Ski.  Or take a ski trip to beautiful Jasper in the Rocky Mountains (UNESCO World Heritage site).  Other animals:  Edmonton Valley Zoo, the Elk Island National Park,  the Edmonton Botanical Gardens and Northlands Park racetrack.  Schools: Edmonton Public Schools operates 212 schools.

Edmonton is a family friendly city with lots of activities/sports/dining/history for you and your children to enjoy.  Affordable housing prices means you will be buying your own home here much quicker than if you were practicing in Toronto or Vancouver, where prices can be double or more.  Average home price in Edmonton is $400,000 (Toronto $1.2million and Vancouver $1.4 million) per the REmax 2022 Fall Canadian Housing Market Outlook.   Start packing and come to Edmonton, where you can create a new lifestyle for you and your family!

The greatest benefit of practicing in Canada is that patients will appreciate and respect you, leaving you with a feeling that what you do really matters, all while living and working in the country of Canada.
