GP

We are looking for a multi-skilled salaried GP to join our team at the Island Medical Centre (IMC) in Alderney, the third largest of the Channel Islands.  Alderney is part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey and health care in the island is a transferred service for which Guernsey has responsibility. 

Alderney is the northernmost of the Channel Islands, lying eight miles from the French coast, 22 miles from Guernsey, and some 35 miles from Jersey.  There are regular flights to Guernsey (20 minutes) and Southampton (40 minutes), sandy beaches, a nine-hole golf course, a tennis club, a sailing club, and many other physical and cultural activities to interest all tastes.

The IMC is the only Practice on the island and we currently have three full-time resident doctors and two part-time nurses for our patient base of 2000 residents, which doubles in the summer months with second home owners and visitors.

Our well-equipped modern surgery holds nine clinical GP sessions each week (the surgery is closed on Wednesday afternoons) and we also provide 24/7 GP cover in the island hospital which has eight acute beds and 14 beds for long term patients and respite care, the Connaught Care Home, accident and emergencies and out of hours service.

Acute patients requiring care in Guernsey or Southampton are medevaced by Aurigny, the local airline, or the ‘Flying Christine’ marine ambulance operated by St John in Guernsey.

The GP’s working week is divided between surgery appointments, the hospital, A&E and the on call service, with eight weeks for annual leave and CPD.
