Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is looking for forward thinking and innovative General Practitioners to take over the General Medical Services Contract of Tywyn Medical Centre, Tywyn, Gwynedd.

Tywyn is a seaside town situated in the south west of Gwynedd around 20 miles from Dolgellau, 12 miles from Machynlleth and 29 miles from the university town of Aberystwyth.

Tywyn Health Centre is a dispensing practice situated on the Tywyn Community Hospital site, about half a mile from the town centre. The practice works from modern purpose built premises located within the Tywyn Community Hospital which has 14 beds and a Minor Injury Unit. The Health Board will also consider interest from successful contractors wishing to support the hospital beds and the Minor Injury Unit Monday to Friday for agreed funding in addition to GMS core funding.

The practice offers services between 08:00 and 18:30, Monday to Friday and operates the Vision clinical system. The practice is part of the pro-active South Meirionnydd Cluster of four practices, which works closely with the six practices in the neighbouring Dwyfor Cluster.

Tywyn health centre provides primary care services for approximately 5,500 people (dispensing to approximately 1,300 patients) and comprises two partners and one salaried GP, 11 administration staff (including Practice Manager and Deputy), one Nurse Prescriber, three practice nurses, one phlebotomist, one Health Care Assistant, three dispensers, one medication delivery driver and one physiotherapist. The practice also has a pharmacist contracted from Medacy.

The Health Board will work with the new contractors to develop and support a sustainable rural health practice that works in tandem with the community hospital and community services.

Why work in Tywyn;

From the rolling hills and mountains to the tranquil golden beachfront and stunning sunsets, the Cardigan Bay Coastline is known across the world for its vast beauty – and Tywyn, right in the heart of Wales where the mountains meet the sea, is no exception.

The Wales Coastal Path runs right through the town and onto the Blue Flag Award beach, and affords views to take your breath away, while the promenade is the perfect place for dolphin spotting. On a clear day you can see up the coast with amazing views towards Bardsey Island & Pwllheli on the Lleyn Peninsula and South towards Fishguard, Aberporth & Aberystwyth.
