The Douglas Macmillan Hospice is a well established and much admired independent Hospice with a 45 year history of delivering excellent palliative and end of life care. We are looking for a Specialty Doctor in Palliative Care whose primary focus will be to provide specialist palliative medical input to the In-Patient Services. We have a dedicated 33 bedded in-patient unit and we also offer a Day Therapy Services and Community Service including Hospice at Home Service and offer 24/7 advice and support to the community.
You will be joining a small team of Specialty Doctors. Working as part of the multi-disciplinary team, you will deliver high quality professional care to the patients and relatives in the Hospice. You will work closely with the whole clinical team to ensure that we offer the highest standards of care, developing our services to meet the changing needs of our patients. Managerially, you will be responsible to the lead medical consultant. You will joining a one in six non-resident on call rota. This post offers the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of initiatives such as teaching and audit. Study leave is available with a supporting budget.
You will need at least 4 years full time post graduate training and post graduate qualification e.g. MRCP, MRCGP or equivalent is desirable. Prior experience in Palliative Care is desirable, however, experience in medicine for the elderly will also be considered. You need to be fully registered with the GMC.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, compassion and an ability to work in respectful partnership with all members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team. The post offers excellent experience and training for those DR’s interested in palliative medicine either as a career or for professional development.
