When you’re managing a busy professional career as a GP, it can leave very little time to focus on looking for your next career opportunity. But finding your ideal role can be life changing, making the whole process worth it.
Here are some tips to help you make the most of this specialist job site, GP Jobs, to find that perfect new opportunity. Whether it’s a salaried GP role, private GP role, partner GP role or locum GP role you are looking for, we can help you find the right job as quickly and easily as possible.
Save time, use the job search filters
On GP Jobs you can narrow your search by location, function and sector. Once you have found a job you want to apply for, click ‘apply now’ and normally you will be able to upload your CV straight away. In some cases you will be directed to the recruiter’s website, which may or may not take you directly to the application page you need. Although this can take longer, use it as an opportunity to do some research about the organisation.
Allow enough time to apply
It is important to take your time when applying for a new job to ensure you understand the specifications and that it is tailored to the role. It is also worth spending some time researching the organisation online and spending some time on the employer’s website.
Upload your CV
Make sure you have an impactful CV and cover letter. GP Jobs allows you to upload your CV, which makes it easier when applying for future roles. You can tick a box to allow recruiters to view your CV and approach you when a suitable role becomes available. You can also opt to receive emails when similar jobs arise.
Make your CV searchable
If you are a GP, make sure you include your GMC registration number within your CV as this is the first piece of information that surgeries will look for to ensure they are approaching registered GPs. Also, make sure you fill in all of your profile information on the job site. Specific questions such as ‘Would you relocate?’ are essential to attract the attention of employers from all regions of the UK and abroad.
Once you have applied...
Once you have applied, you will receive an email from GP Jobs confirming that your application has been submitted. Your application goes directly to the employer or recruitment consultancy who can log in and check how many people have applied. If your application doesn’t meet the initial criteria you may receive an automated message advising you of this. Give them a call directly if you have not heard back within a week, though we do urge advertisers to respond within this timeframe.
