Are you a GP looking to manage the provision of Primary Care Services in a GP practice?

We spoke to Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board about the unique contract opportunities in Wrexham for GPs keen to manage one or more practices.

Tell me about the contract opportunity and what it involves

This is a rare opportunity for ambitious GPs who, in partnership with other practitioners, are keen to manage one or more practices. The offer involves taking over the provision of Primary Care Services of up to four practices in Wrexham: Beechley Medical Centre, Borras Park Surgery, Hillcrest Medical Centre, and Forge Road Surgery.

There are a variety of contract options available, depending on how the successful applicants want to run the practices. You could add it to your existing group of practices, if you already run them, or you could be a group of partner and/or salaried GPs, along with other practitioners, looking to make an ambitious and exciting move.

How are the practices currently being managed?

The four practices are currently being managed by the health board. However, this is an opportunity for the right group of visionary GPs to take over and manage the practices themselves instead. All four practices are available individually but the health board supports the development of more collaborative health and wellbeing models, so we’re particularly interested in applications from GPs looking to take on several or all of the practices to create a larger practice across multiple locations.

What is the Wrexham area like as a place to work?

Wrexham is a university town located in North East Wales, close to the English border with Cheshire and Shropshire. It’s a great place to live and work with a variety of local attractions including Erddig and Chirk Castle, the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal, and the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Wrexham offers excellent road and rail links to the rest of North Wales, North West England and Shropshire.

What kind of people are you looking for?

We are ideally looking for GPs from a range of backgrounds that have experience in running a primary care contract in a GP setting. You must show evidence of relevant and ongoing continuing professional development.

It is worth noting that for governance reasons, contracts will not be offered to a sole practitioner.

How does the application process work?

First we are welcoming expressions of interest and requests for information packs.  For more information about these please click here. The closing date for expressions of interest is midday on Friday 22 June 2018.  An interview panel will then be held on Tuesday 7 August 2018.
