Break into Prison Healthcare

HMP YOI Drake Hall is a female resettlement prison taking 315 prisoners from age 18+. Drake Hall is located near the village of Eccleshall in Staffordshire and in 2009 was re-designated to a closed prison.

Care UK is the Health in Justice market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

We’ll utilise the wellbeing model to put patient care and safety at the heart of everything we do through assessing prisoners across 5 domains of; physical and mental wellbeing, substance misuse, relationships and resettlement. The patient and clinician complete a wellbeing wheel assessment to set goals and outcomes in partnership. The patient will complete the assessment and any needs identified will be met by our fully integrated service delivery team.

To ensure the continued quality of care at HMP YOI Drake Hall, we’re looking for GPs/Lead GP to support us and the existing team in this exciting new venture. This will be a 12 hour a week position which may include the option of moving into Medical Leadership at the service.

As a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team, the General Practitioner will provide clinical assessment and diagnosis to patient’s requirements and make timely decisions regarding future management. You will also provide a highly specialist resource to other healthcare staff, patients and carers and have active involvement in clinical governance/effectiveness activities.

It doesn’t end there; you will have a chance to become actively involved in audit, teaching and training (management of substance misuse and/or blood borne viruses) as well as helping us to adapt the service to the ever-changing needs of the patients.

In this environment we appreciate flexibility around working hours hence we are also willing to accommodate part time requests. We offer a competitive annual salary plus payment of MDU/MPS subscription.

Additional Information

This is a part-time 12 hours per week role. The full-time equivalent salary for this role is £95,000-£110,000 - commensurate of experience. Please note that as Drake Hall is a Female prison, we are looking for applications from Female GPs. We also welcome applications on a part-time basis.
